The project involves the renovation and energy upgrading of a 1970s house located in the Venetian countryside. The original dwelling had large rooms but that were sacrificed by a poor interior distribution. The project enhances these large spaces and remodels them to meet the living needs of a large family. The old south-facing volume is also expanded and reconfigured, obtaining the new living space that dialogues with the outdoor spaces through panoramic windows with views to the surrounding countryside. The design choice to use exposed steel for the structures, staircase and landing, recalls the owner’s former profession of carpenter. To bring the building to maximum energy performance, special measures were used in the insulation of the envelope and the correction of thermal bridges given the complicated geometry of the existing structures.
